Introduction

This website contains the United States Army Training Center Infantry graduation book for Company A, Second Battalion, Fort Polk, Louisiana for the training period commencing on January 4, 1971 and ending on February 26, 1971.

“The attendant marches, logistical planning, tactical problems, and necessary staff work provided the best possible schools for officers and men, both Regular and emergency.” – General Dwight D. Eisenhower

Note: The book contained herein is an official publication of the United States Army. Accordingly, it is a public document and therefore is in the public domain. It contains dozens of photographs of men undergoing basic combat training and the names and head shots of the trainees and the officers, drill sergeants and other enlisted personnel who were assigned to Company A, Second Battalion in January and February of 1971. These men were not actors. They were actual soldiers serving in the United States Army. For them, basic training was serious business. This book is an important historical document. It shows a group of Americans at a point in time who were willing to put aside their daily routines to make a contribution to the national defense of the United States. For that they deserve our sincere thanks.

This website is dedicated to the drill sergeants without whom there would be no military.
